Returning Team/ Early Bird Fees In Effect

Eighteen teams took advantage of the “Original 36″ team fee and have already registered for 2011.

Returning teams may register at a cost of $450 until September 30th 2011. New teams may register and take advantage of the “Early Bird” fee of $500 between now and November 30th.

After that a late registration fee of $550 applies. The Alberta Pond Hockey Association’s marketing blitz is set to commence in mid-September.

Pond Hockey Photo Contest

Send us your best Alberta Pond Hockey Championship photo/ story and have your name entered into a draw for an Edmonton Oilers jersey. We are looking for some unique photos and stories to feature on our website. Take a look at one of our favourite photos!

Contest rules:

1) Please ensure that you are the owner of the photo and have permission to post same.

2) All photos must accompany the name of the person who took the photo and agree to have their name posted on albertapondhockey.com

3) By entering the contest you give the AB Pond Hockey Association the right to publish same.

4) Entries may be mailed to albertapondhockey@gmail.com

5) The AB Pond Hockey Association reserves the right to refrain from publishing any photo or story deemed offensive to others.

6) Photos must be received no later than December 31st 2010. The winner will be announced on our website on Janaury 2nd, 2011.

John “Chick” Chadwick is the oldest participant in the AB Pond Hockey Championships and is a member of the Doug Marshall Chevies championship team. No one wonder the Chevies are the defending champs with Chick’s wisdom!

Okanagan Hockey School Donates Jerseys

Okanagan Hockey School, located in Pentiction, BC, has donated in excess of 100 hockey jerseys to the Alberta Pond Hockey Championships. These jerseys are to be shared with the Grimshaw and Peace River Minor Hockey Association for the upcoming season!

$2000 Up For Grabs

The Alberta Pond Hockey Championships is an affiliate tournament of the World Pond Hockey Championships in Plaster Rock, NB set for Feb. 10 – 13th, 2011. Our champs, the Doug Marshall Chevies, will be attending Plaster Rock in 2011 to challenge for world supremacy once again.

In 2008, the Chevies finished 4th in the 120 team tournament. The winners of the AB Pond Hockey Championships receive a team entry and $2000 towards travel related costs to attend the World Championships.

Forget the money – think of the glory! Register for the 2011 AB Pond Hockey Championships for a chance to become the reigning champs of Alberta and who knows, possibly, the World!

The phrase “Alberta Pond Hockey” is a registered trademark along with the logo of the Alberta Pond Hockey Association. In 2007, representatives from the APHA presented at the Growing Rural Tourism Conference in Camrose and Travel Alberta Industry Conference in Banff. These appearances sparked immense interest in pond hockey across Alberta. In 2008 & 2009, the Alberta Pond Hockey Association was a finalist in the “marketing excellence over $5,000″ category at the Alto Awards (Alberta Tourism). The Alberta Pond Hockey Championships is Alberta’s premiere pond hockey event!

Fairmont Champs to Visit in 2011

The Chiefs, champions from the 2010 Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise Pond Hockey Classic, will be making the trek to Lac Cardinal in 2011. As part of our ongoing affiliate tournament strategy, the Chiefs will be joined by Slapsauce, at the 2011 Alberta Pond Hockey Championships. Both team hail from the Banff/ Lake Louise area and will have to do some serious stretching to get rid of the bus legs. Check out the pristine conditions from the 2010 Championships.

Kaesers Bisons – 1st Team to Register for 2011

Congrats, to the Kaesers Bisons, our friends from the NWT, who are the first team to register for the 2011 Championships. Nice to see the NWT represented once again. It sounds like the champs from our affiliate tournament, the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise, are excited to make the trek up north. The Chiefs, hailing from Banff, are expected to make the trek and test their skills at the 2011 Championships.

Refer a Team – $50 Credit

Any registered team which refers a new team to this year’s tournament will receive a $50 credit on registration day. Three caveats are in place: 1) the “new” team must travel a distance of 200 km or greater to attend the tournament, 2) both teams must be fully registered, 3) the referring team must email albertapondhockey@gmail.com in advance of December 31st 2010 advising of the referral.

It’s our way of saying thanks to you! Let’s see if we can bump the number of teams to 96 in 2011!

*Certain conditions apply. Only one referral “refund fee” per team/year. Decisions rendered by the Alberta Pond Hockey Association are final.
