A Message from the Board of the Alberta Pond Hockey Association

Hello everyone,

There were many amazing stories from this past weekend, from the awesome weather, the teams that travelled great distances like Dawson City, Yukon and Norway to the media crew shooting video for Tim Hortons. One of the parents of the junior hockey players shared a story with me that I would like to pass on to you. He told me that he has never experienced a more Canadian moment in his entire life – during the closing ceremonies, we had 2 girls from Grimshaw Public School singing our national anthem and as they were belting out the words, he looked around at all the people that were on the ice and to a man, woman, and child, everyone had completely stopped what they were doing, many had removed their helmets or hats or toques and were listening or singing along to O’Canada. He said it brought a tear to his eye – doesn’t get any more Canadian than that.

Alberta Pond Hockey would like to thank all the municipalities and sponsors that provided funding and/or gift in kind donations for the 2018 event. As well, we would like to thank all the volunteers that helped to run this event so smoothly. We wish to thank all the players, young and old, who made the journey and competed on the frozen rinks of Lac Cardinal. And finally, we want to thank all the fans for coming out and supporting your teams and your young junior hockey players this past weekend. See you all next year.
