Alberta Pond Hockey Championships Are Set for Three Days of Action on March 8, 9 & 10, 2024

The details are set and ready to go for the annual Alberta Pond Hockey Championships taking place at the Lac Cardinal Recreation Area near Grimshaw, Alberta. Happening on March 8, 9, and 10, this weekend long event is expected to be just as thrilling and exciting as previous years with teams joining from all over Canada to participate.

Held under clear winter skies on top of thick, natural ice, hockey enthusiasts will be able to gather from all corners of the country for another unforgettable event on the lake. With nonstop games commencing across 15 rinks, spectators will be able to cheer on their favourite teams and catch some of the best moments in hockey during the entire weekend.

As one of the biggest winter events in the Mighty Peace, the Alberta Pond Hockey Championships has gone to many lengths to ensure that all visitors and players are warm and comfortable for the duration of their time on the ice. Located in the middle of the action is a large, heated tent that houses a lively beer garden, cozy seating area, and Mr. Mikes Steak House Casual, who will be on site all weekend serving hot dogs, smokies, and burgers. Tim Hortons will also be offering free hot chocolate and coffee for those who need a quick cup of warmth.

Perfect for the entire family to attend, there are many other attractions that consistently draw crowds from near and far to this fun and frosty event. Alongside the many hockey games, visitors will be able to watch the thrilling ice races – where ATV’s and dirt bikes race at top speeds across the frozen lake, try their hand at stick curling, lace up their own skates on the family skating rink, watch an exciting game of ringette, or take a ride on a dogsled pulled by a team of eager huskies. Core memories are guaranteed to be made each day here!

The good times won’t end off the ice though. On Saturday evening, the annual Alberta Pond Hockey Gala will be held in Grimshaw at the Mile Zero Regional Multiplex. This year Steve McQueen will take the stage to entertain guests until late in the evening. Catered by local restaurant the Krooked House and Step Up Eatery, event goers will be treated to some of the best food in town during dinner. This gala always sells out quickly, so securing tickets in advance is always recommended.

Overall, the Alberta Pond Hockey Championships is bound to be another successful event to check off your winter must see list. Whether it’s your first time attending, or you’re an avid supporter, you won’t be disappointed with what’s in store for this unforgettable occasion on ice.

Mark your calendars, plan your stays, and be prepared to have a one-of-a-kind experience on the beautiful Lac Cardinal Lake.
