Speed Skating

Depending on interest the Alberta Pond Hockey Board will create an outdoor oval for a sanctioned speed skating event. This gives speed skaters and fans the unique opportunity to skate outdoors on a 400-metre track of well-maintained outdoor ice. In the past the Peace River Northern Lights Speed Skating Club has done clinics and mini races against club speed skaters and pond hockey players. Ringette is a Canadian invention that has become one of the fastest team sports on the ice. The Sunday of the Alberta Pond Hockey Championships a Ringette Tournament takes place. Teams from all over the region compete in the tournament.

You can expect an epic, picture worthy ice sculpture at the Alberta Pond Hockey Championships. Hand crafted by a local artist from the Mighty Peace. The ice sculpture design is always kept a secret until the first day of the pond hockey championships.
